“EVERY BUSINESS has information that requires
destruction… Customer lists, price lists, sales statistics, drafts
of bids and correspondence. Even memos contain information about
business activity which would interest any competitor. Every
business is also entrusted with information that must be kept
private. Employees and customers have the legal right to have this
data protected.” – Source: NAID.
REGULAR SCHEDULED SERVICE
Most of our customers prefer the convenience of a
regularly scheduled service. In this scenario, a Michigan Shredding
representative works with you to establish regular pick-up intervals
so that documents can be destroyed in a timely manner. You will be
provided with locking security bins and security consoles free of
charge. Since collection containers vary in size and capacity, your
service representative will help determine how many containers are
needed and where they should be placed throughout your facility.
PURGE SERVICE
Do you have boxes of old documents? If so, it’s
probably time for a purge. Just as you are legally required to
retain certain records for a period of time, when that time period
has reached its limit you are then legally required to destroy those
records. Scheduling a purge service is your starting point.
WHY NOT JUST TOSS IT IN THE DUMPSTER?
Discarding of documents the “old fashioned” way is
no longer acceptable for many reasons. In contrast to the popular
notion that identity theft occurs mostly through the internet, most
identity theft actually originates in the workplace and the
information that is misused usually comes from paper documents.
Consider these numbers:
• 53,000,000 personal identities have been stolen
to date.
• Approximately 27,000 more are stolen each day
• Companies spend an average of 1,600 work hours cleaning up an
incident
• The cost of clean-up is $40,000 - $92,000 per victim
If an information security breach is traced
to your company:
• 20% of your affected customer base will no longer
do business with you
• 40% will consider ending the relationship with your company
• 5% will be hiring lawyers
